IB Maths (AA HL) IA: Probability and Fried Rice
A downloadable internal assessment
IB Math Higher Level May 2022 Internal Assessment:
20 pages including 1 cover page and 2 appendix pages
The contents page can be found in the screenshots.
For students working on their math IAs that need examples of:
- Formatting and structuring content
- Using equations and formulas to present your calculation process
- Using tables and graphs to present data
- Using diagrams to illustrate experiment setups
- Processing data and connecting your findings to theory
- Using programming and simulations to confirm/predict your findings
Teachers are also welcome to use it as samples of what students could do with their math IAs!
Abstract:
When spam cubes are fried in preparation for spam fried rice, their faces get fried one by one as they get stirred around. The purpose of this experiment is to mathematically model the distribution of the number of sides fried on each cube given the number of stirs. After programming a simulation, conducting experiments, and doing extensive research on the theoretical model of the experiment, I’ve obtained a method to calculate the distribution given the number of stirs. With this result, I can find the optimal amount of stirs required for the majority of the cubes (80%) to be fried on most sides (at least 5 sides). Which is revealed at the end of the paper to be 10 stirs.
